Healing Properties & Uses of Satin Spar

Posted by Amy Evans on

Satin Spar is one of those must have crystals in your collection. It is also one that you can never have too much of. It is well known for clearing negative energy and energetic blockages. Satin Spar is a crystal that will support you through all stages of your spiritual journey, from spiritual awakening right through to connecting with your spiritual guides.

Satin Spar is most commonly sold as Selenite. While both crystals have very similar healing properties and come from the same gypsum family (same chemical composition), they aren’t the same crystal. Selenite is a bit rarer and more transparent in appearance than Satin Spar is. Genuine Selenite is also significantly more expensive.

So why is Satin Spar commonly sold as Selenite? It is believed that a long time ago, store owners labelled Satin Spar as Selenite as Selenite was more sort after. Over time people became so accustomed to seeing Satin Spar labelled as Selenite that they questioned if genuine Selenite was fake, so the name Selenite stuck. As the healing properties are so similar for both crystals, it isn’t an issue unless you are being charged Selenite prices for Satin Spar; so keep an eye out for that.

Crystal Care tips for Satin Spar:

  • Satin Spar is water soluble, so please don’t use water to cleanse Satin Spar and try avoiding getting it wet. It’s best to keep it undercover or inside by a window if you are putting it under the moonlight. We also don’t recommend wearing it directly on your skin encase you may sweat throughout the day.
  • Satin Spar self cleanses and charges quickly, so it doesn’t need regular cleansing, but it never hurts to include this crystal in your full moon or smudging cleanses.
